Music Lessons

Cello Lessons

I teach cello from beginners to professional consultations. In all my teaching I aim for a natural and easy instrumental technique. I can show you how to set up good posture habits, how to learn and improve your vibrato, how to make the best use of your practise time and help you with many more aspects of your musical learning. Study goals and repertoire are tailored for each individual student.

piano and theory lessons

I also teach piano lessons and provide tutoring in musical theory. In my experience, learning piano is a great way to build your overall understanding of how music works and it is a fabulously useful skill to have!

F.A.Q.

My fee for cello lessons is £20 per half hour; £30 for 45 minutes; £40 for one hour. Please contact me for my rates for piano lessons, theory and group online courses.

I teach ‘in person’ at my home studio in Marston, Oxford. Obviously online lessons can take place in the convenience of your own home.

For individual cello and piano lessons, I usually invoice for lessons taken, 6 times per year. I find bank transfer to be most convenient for everyone. Online group classes are payable in advance.

Yes, of course, but please give me 24 hours notice as a courtesy.

This depends on your level of learning: 30 minutes is ample for a young beginner, but more advanced students will benefit from 45 minutes to one hour sessions.

I think electronic pianos are excellent for the lower grades of piano. By about grade five level, students can really benefit from practising on a real piano: it will need to be tuned regularly though!

You will need a device such as a laptop or tablet for the best online lessons. You can use a phone if you need to, but your screen view will be more limited. If you have a microphone and can use headphones, that is even better!

Absolutely! It is incredibly rewarding to learn new skills at whatever age – we are never too old to learn.
